FromSoftware, the studio known for games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls, is preparing an exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2 console. According to The Verge and The Guardian, The Duskbloods is a hardcore multiplayer project in which players control vampire characters. The network test will take place at the end of August.
What is The Duskbloods about?
The Duskbloods is set in a gothic world where eight players compete. They control vampires called Bloodsworn and complete various objectives during the match. The core principle is collecting virtue points, the so-called Virtue. Players earn them by collecting items, killing enemies, defeating bosses, exploring the map, or completing tasks known as sigils.
The match is divided into phases. At the end of each phase, a so-called "culling" occurs, where players with the fewest Virtue points are eliminated. According to The Verge, the game consists of four phases, and at the end, "several" players remain. The Guardian, however, mentions a version with three phases and a final showdown among three players. The outlets disagree on the number of phases and survivors.
Characters and helpers
In the early version of the game, which will be the same as the network test, players choose from six characters. Each has a distinct fighting style. For example, an aging senator with a rapier who can transform into a dinosaur, a ninja with circular blades, a man with a fiery stone in his palm, or a character named Zork armed with an electrified underwater cable.
During the match, players can summon helpers, the so-called kin. They can be samurai or giant wolves. Players can also turn enemies into their minions by draining their blood. One of the maps shown takes place in Lowanro City, featuring a clock tower, a drawbridge, and sewers.
Collaboration with Nintendo
Nintendo contributes to development by providing feedback and helping create tutorial materials for players. According to Nintendo Everything, game creator Hidetaka Miyazaki said: "Nintendo is definitely the right partner to better convey information so that it is understandable to players."
