Kojima Productions Denies Reports of Studio Issues

Kojima Productions denies reports of studio issues. In an official statement on social media platform X dated September 20, 2026, the studio stated that it is in a healthy and profitable state and that the development of the game Physint is progressing in collaboration with Xbox. It also confirmed that its relationship with PlayStation remains strong.

Kojima Productions Denies Reports of Studio Issues

The statement comes after reports of Sony's withdrawal from the Physint project. According to information reported by Polygon, Bloomberg stated that Sony pulled out due to missed deadlines, budget and profitability issues, as well as temporary exclusivity. However, Kojima Productions claims that none of these assertions come from an official source and calls for skepticism. The studio did not provide a direct rebuttal to Bloomberg's report.

Hideo Kojima, in an interview quoted by Polygon, expressed surprise at the project's cancellation. "I thought Physint was safe. So I was surprised," he stated. He added that if he lost one contract, he would have to lay off people working on Physint, or the studio could collapse due to lack of funds. He wanted to stand firmly behind independent studios, which is why he sought a new partner.

Physint was first introduced in 2024 during State of Play. In mid-June 2026, Kojima learned about Sony's cancellation of the project. On September 9, it was announced that Xbox would be the publisher. Bloomberg published its report on September 11. Kojima then appeared at the Xbox TGS 2026 Showcase on September 17. According to Polygon, the game will be released on PC and Xbox, but not on PlayStation consoles. The release date is yet to be announced.

In its statement, Kojima Productions said: "We want to reassure you all, for the record: that the studio is in a healthy, profitable state, development for Physint continues to move forward with Xbox, and our relationship with PlayStation remains strong." According to Inven Global, the studio also confirmed that its relationships with PlayStation remain solid.

The discrepancy between Bloomberg's version and the studio's remains. While Bloomberg cites specific reasons, Kojima Productions does not confirm them and calls for caution.
